My
art celebrates the beauty of the African culture; its'
people, sculpture, textiles, jewelry and music. I incorporate
a number of African motifs in my art using various mediums
including acrylics, collage, oil pastels, ink, and color
pencils.
I
started my art training at Pepperdine College between
1967 and 1970 and received a degree in art from Cal
State Northridge in 1971.
I
am inspired by artists, Romare Bearden, Elizabeth Cattlett,
Claude Clark Sr., Aaron Douglas, Paul Gauguin, Lois
Mailou Jones, Paul Klee, Samella Lewis, Jacob Lawrence,
Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, and Faith Ringgold.
I
enjoy sharing my view of the Black experience through
my art.
My
parents encouraged me to give to the world the best
that you have and the best will come back to you".
One of my "bests" is my art, I believe that the
Holy Spirit is guiding me to share it. If my work
is well received and appreciated, the "best" will
indeed have come back to me.
