The
architectural
scale clay wallworks
are painted and
embedded with
recycled fired
clay pieces of
earlier works
of mine, therefore,
somewhat archeological
in nature.
Because
I grew up in
"earthquake
country,"
I appreciate
the craks and
movement that
clay creates
as it changes,
as it dries;
I celebrate these
changes and I
leave them as
a reminder of
our fluidity
and regeneration.
I
respond to the
clay as it buckles
and cracks. I
release control
of the clay and
respond to the
surface with
paint. it is
metaphoric, it
is all a part
of a much larger
spiritual journey.
